Handling Sin
by Michael Malone
602 pages
I originally read this several years ago, yet it is one that I have read a couple of times, have loaned out, but ALWAYS get back.  It's a great story of two friends, Raleigh and Mingo who have to complete seven things in order for Raleigh to rescue his dad, and what follows is a tremendous adventure.  You won't be sorry if you join these two on their treasure hunt. There is a cast of unforgettable characters who you really want to get to know. Laugh out loud funny and heartwarming.  Try it out, I doubt you'll be disappointed...

All Creatures Great and Small
James Herriott
437 pages
This book will hold a special place in your heart after you've read it.  A story of a veterinarian whose deep love of animals shows through out the book.  Told with warmth and humor, shows the trials and tribulations of being a vet.  Guaranteed, if you read this one you'll want to read the series...

I'm going to give you an extra bonus;

One of the absolute funniest authors I have ever read is Laurie Notaro.
I originally read her Christmas book, (below) and thought it was Laugh Out Loud Funny !  I actually would say " Listen to this..."(Didn't know I was a talker did ya?)

All of this authors books are so funny, you may laugh until you cry.  You'll  want everyone you know to join inthe fun, unquestionably the funniest books  I've ever read .  She's like every woman, and you'll recognize yourself in some of the stories.  If you haven't read any of her books-- try'em- they're a riot, you're gonna love 'em.

Do They Hear You When You Cry?
Fauziya Kassindja
511 pages
I read this one many moons ago, but talk about unbelievable !  You will never forget this story about the author herself and her undying courage.  She is sent away from her African home to escape female circumcision, but faces indescribable injustice.  A must read for any one interested in the United States immigration system or other cultures
You will find yourself embarrassed and ashamed at our treatment of this woman.  A honest and inspiring story for women of all ages.  Unforgettable.

The Stand
Stephen King
1168 pages
Probably one of my earliest memories of a great book.  The story pulls you in as you learn about the characters, and their journey across the country after a flu like epidemic wipes out the majority of the population.  A good versus evil story, and one of my  very favorite Stephen King books, although there are others I've enjoyed.  If you want a great big fat page turner of a book, this is it.

Magic Hour
Kristin Hannah
416 pages
1st, this book is probably more a "women's read"--but I'll tell you what- I loved it so much I bought my sister a copy.  Julia Gates is a child psychiatrist.  After a tragedy occurs and makes national news, she receives a call from her sister.  Of course she hasn't talked to the sister in years. ( Predictable you say?  Ah ha you would be sooooooo wrong).  Her sister asks Julia to come back to their hometown to help with a young girl who can't speak. This child has obviously been hurt and broken in ways no one can fathom.  But this little girl "Alice" has more strength than many adults.  This book will grab hold of your heart and absolutely will not let it go. I've read all of Kristin Hannahs' books but this is my
absolute favorite.
